I spent the day on our trails, and wanted to share what a lovely day it was out there. Despite the lousy snowfall lately, the trails we all support were true to our mission in many, many ways that should make us all proud.

Club members came throughout the day to ski and snowshoe, acknowledging that although the conditions weren't the best, they were better than we thought they should be.

A dozen Bates students, part of their Nordic Ski Club/Outing club, borrowed skis from the Skill, and had a lovely time shuffling up Extra Blue, most of them trying nordic skiing for the first time.  They were very appreciative, and hope to come again.

I met a woman from Portland who was exploring the trails while her kids skied at Lost Valley - she was impressed!

At 1:30 the tone turned to youthful laughter as the Bill Koch program played games, did relays, and skied the trails with help from a bunch of the Bates Nordic team skiers, giving up their one free weekend day to come help kids have fun learning to ski.

One club member commented as we were sharing our surprise at how good the skiing was, "there's something magical about these trails."   I couldn't say it better.  Thanks for supporting and enjoying our magical trails.
